However on a dry sunny day the views will be very rewarding. Take in the beautiful Surrey scenery by boating along the River Wey Navigation. definitely muddy in a few places, but easy walking :). So you could take the train to West Byfleet, walk the trail, then take the train home from Guildford. Stay with this path which leads you over several boardwalks and via flights of steps, taking care as it can be very muddy and slippery in part. Thats why you may hear it referred to as the Wey Navigation, or sometimes the Wey and Godalming navigation. Boat trips run six times a day from Thursday to Monday, when the Wharf is open (March-October) and tickets (35 for Trust member and non-members) are released every Thursday. Can you walk along the basingstoke canal? I wasnt expecting this, so it was a nice surprise. Today the bridges are owned by the National Trust. About 20 metres beyond the railway bridge, turn left onto the signed public footpath and follow this with a stream running on your right. Can imagine there would be lovely views in summer. Those ads you do see are predominantly from local businesses promoting local services. You will walk away from the houses, and past another cute bridge, before reaching another concentration of houses. To the left of you is a big field. Particularly on the walk out of Guildford. I have to say though, this last bit of the river walk into Godalming did surprise me a little. Suitable for all skill levels. The river flows slow and steady with clear water in many parts. Out of the station, you need to cross over the main road and find your way to the underpass, which will take you to the river. During heat waves, you will find kids jumping off the bridge, and people generally taking a dip to cool down from the heat. The original lock controlled the water used to flood the meadows. As I said, its quite slippy and steep, so do this at your own risk.

Farnham to Godalming walk - SWC - Saturday Walkers Club Minus the bramble to my sons face which meant it all ended in tears.
